How to Qualify for Home Health Care?
In order for Minneapolis, MN, residents to qualify for home health care, you need to meet the following conditions:
You must have a physician’s order determining that you need medical care in your home
You require at least one of the following: physical therapy, skilled nursing care, speech therapy, occupational therapy, or assistance with daily living activities, such as bathing due to physical limitations or safety reasons
Your physician must certify that you are typically unable to leave your home or are homebound
Your physician must regularly review and sign your plan of care
It is important to note that when you are qualifying for home health care services, although you must be homebound, this does not mean that you are physically forbidden to leave your home. This does mean that when leaving your home, there is a safety risk to your physical health or well-being or that the process of leaving is overwhelming or exhausting.
Does Medicare Cover Home Health Care?
Medicare is the U.S. is the government’s health care coverage for those who are over the age of 65. In the majority of situations, Medicare typically covers about one-half of all the medical costs for the elderly, such as hospital visits, doctor appointments, medical equipment, and some nursing care. Medicare may provide payment for skilled services as well, such as therapy and home nursing, if there is a need for skilled nursing and you are homebound. To qualify for Medicare home health care benefits, you must meet the following requirements:
Be under the care of a physician and receive services under a plan of care that has been established by and routinely reviewed by a doctor.
Your doctor certifies your need for physical therapy, intermittent skilled nursing care (other than blood draws), speech-language pathology services, and continued occupational therapy, and the home health care agency that will be providing services to you is approved by Medicare.
Your doctor has certified you to be homebound, which means you have difficulties leaving your home without assistance, such as with a cane, wheelchair, special transportation, or the assistance of another person.
Part of the certification for eligibility includes documentation from your doctor or other health care professionals that they have had a face-to-face meeting with you within a specified time frame and that the encounter was in regard to the reason you are requiring home health care services.
Why We Love Minneapolis, Minnesota
From a dramatic riverfront skyline to three professional sports stadiums within a 1.3-mile radius and art on almost every corner, there is so much to love about Minneapolis, MN. Although Minneapolis is considered to be the largest of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul), it is far from being a concrete jungle like many other large cities. In fact, the city is abundantly rich in water and includes 13 lakes, waterfalls, creeks, and the Mississippi River. Minneapolis has all four seasons, and there is something for everyone to do during all four of them. Living in Minneapolis means that wherever you are, you’re never further than six blocks from a park, excellent food is around every corner, and the neighborhoods are known for their friendly residents.
What Does Minneapolis Have to Offer?
Minnesota is the leading state for most golfers per capita, so it has become a nationally known golfing destination. As well known and amazing as the golf courses are in Minneapolis, the city has much more to offer, including but certainly not limited to:
The iconic sculpture garden near Loring Park, which also happens to be the perfect place to catch a sunset on the skyline of the Mississippi River. Loring Park is also known for hosting some of the best festivals in the city, including an art fair and Holidazzle.
The Walker Art Center, which is one of the most visited contemporary and modern art museums in the country. After you take in the art, you can stroll up to the roof to play a game of mini-golf or simply relax in one of the rooftop gardens.
Theodore Wirth Park, which is 740 acres and the largest park in Minneapolis. There are activities year-round at the park, including fishing, picnicking, and cycling, and there is also a bird sanctuary and a beach.
The Minneapolis Farmers Market on Lyndale, which is the original farmers market in the Twin Cities. It first opened in 1876, it’s still the largest farmers market in the area, and it’s open all year. The farmer’s market has themed days, live music, and, of course, fresh in-season produce.
There are few cities that celebrate the outdoors as Minnesotans celebrate it. There are people at the parks and lakes as soon as the temperature gets above “cold.” The lakes have everything from ice skating and kayaking to skiing paths and hiking trails. From the Minneapolis Arts District, which USA Today voted as the nation’s best art district in 2015, to the best park system in the nation, there is definitely something for everyone in Minneapolis.
